Robbie Cross in Shoal Group How To Videos

What to expect.

This series of videos has been produced to help you achieve a perfectly crimped terminal or splice every time. The following videos illustrate the ‘Do’s’ and ‘Don’ts’ of using matched terminals and tooling from the extensive Cablecraft product ranges coupled with advice on correct wire preparation and sizing. Understanding the correct methods and processes will help to meet and exceed the requirements of BS 5G178, 5057, 4579, British Rail WOSS 560-4, LUL Standards RSE024 & E6487A2.

Although many of the videos shown in this series show crimping with smaller wires and terminals, all the techniques discussed apply to all wires of all sizes, all types of conductors, and all insulation materials. These techniques also apply to all types of crimp terminals including Open barrel, Closed barrel, and Copper Tube type terminals. These techniques are not brand specific and apply to all types of these products from all manufacturers.

Introduction

In this first video we introduce Robbie Cross, who runs product and crimp training programs and is an expert in this field. Robbie speaks about the importance of getting the right tool to achieve the correct standard you are working to. It's always important to remember that you CAN'T buy a standard but you CAN produce one, with the correct equipment.

Video 1 - Wire Preparation.

When terminating a wire it is important to start off with a wire that has been correctly prepared to receive the best termination possible. We show you the importance of wire preparation, and highlight how crucial it is to check your work, as well as getting the right tooling and using the tooling in the correct way. We cover what can go wrong if the incorrect cavity in a strip tool is used.
